The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced that focus crimes nationwide decreased by 24.32% in January 2026 compared to the same period last year. According to the data, the positive impact of better force management and more active community participation in crime prevention is clearly visible.
Based on the report, the number of focus crimes dropped from 3,236 cases in 2025 to 2,449 cases this year. Among those with the biggest decline were rape cases which dropped by almost 61%, while carnapping, murder, homicide, and physical injuries also recorded a significant decrease in the number of incidents.
The PNP leadership explained that the result is the result of enhanced deployment of human and logistical resources, as well as thorough operational auditing and police visibility. They said that not only is the presence of the police on the streets important, but also the proper location and time of their assignment to be effective and beneficial to the public.
At the same time, the PNP reiterated its commitment to accountability and discipline among the police force. It said that no one involved in illegal activities will be tolerated, and that regular and surprise drug tests will continue to be implemented, as well as stricter internal monitoring against misconduct.
As part of the long-term reform, the PNP is also emphasizing the strengthening of the Internal Affairs Service and the ongoing review of the organization's policies and structures. This aims to ensure that the crime reduction is sustainable, and that public trust in the police force will be further strengthened in the years to come.
