The Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines is supporting a group of Filipino Catholics youth who are using the online gaming platform Roblox to spread the faith and build community. The Nuncio, Archbishop Charles J. Brown, called the initiative a "welcome sign of progress" in engaging youth in the life of the Church.
In celebration of the 5th anniversary of the Roblox Filipino Catholics (RFC), Archbishop Brown commended the group for their creation of a virtual simulation of the Feast of the Black Nazarene, allowing devotees who cannot attend the annual Quiapo procession to participate in the celebration meaningfully.
Brown mentioned that RFC's virtual social hub can be a space for encouragement and connection, especially for those in need of support and friendship. According to him, online interactions can lead to real friendships and a stronger community.
The nuncio referred to Pope Francis' encyclical Fratelli Tutti, and emphasized the importance of recognizing the dignity of every person, at all times and places. He also cited Pope Leo XIV's message to young people, encouraging them to strive for holiness and joyfully demonstrate their faith wherever they are.
In their response, the RFC leadership expressed gratitude for the recognition, citing it as a testament to the creativity and faith of Filipino youth in seeking God's presence even in the digital world. From the first 100 members in 2021, RFC has grown to over 6,000 members, actively participating in discussions and activities, including the Virtual Traslacion and Virtual Sinulog, further expanding their reach and influence.
