A tragic bus accident occurred in Nepal after the bus fell off a mountain and hit a cold river, police said on Monday. In this incident, 19 people died, including a British tourist.
The bus, which was travelling from the tourist city of Pokhara to the capital Kathmandu, fell more than 200 metres (655 feet) into the Trishuli River in Dhading district early on Monday.
According to Senior Police Officer Prakash Dahal, “Out of the 44 passengers, 19 have died and 25 are currently undergoing treatment.” One of the fatalities was a British citizen, while another Chinese and a New Zealander were injured.
Mohan Prasad Neupane, information officer of the district administration, shared that the rescue operation was completed before sunrise. The injured are currently being treated at district hospitals.
Such accidents are not new in Nepal due to poor road conditions, poor vehicle maintenance, and reckless driving. In July 2024, two buses with more than 50 passengers fell into the same river after a landslide.
