BMW Motorrad has once again demonstrated its prowess in off-road motorsport with the launch of the new BMW R 12 G/S in the Philippines. It was officially introduced by SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp., the authorized importer and distributor of BMW Motorrad in the country.
BMW has long been known for its high-torque boxer engine and robust shaft drive system. In 1980, they launched the R 80 G/S, the first series-production enduro with a boxer engine. The “G/S” comes from the German word Gelände/Straße (off-road/street), symbolizing a balanced combination of touring comfort, off-road capability, and dynamic road performance.
The new BMW R 12 G/S pays homage to its heritage while incorporating modern engineering and technology. Limited to just 10 units in the Philippines, it is available in the Option 719 Sandrover Matt/Aragonite variant priced at PHP 1,755,000.
The R 12 G/S is powered by a 1,170cc air/oil-cooled boxer engine, which produces 109 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 115 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. It features long-travel suspension, cross-spoke wheels, and a compact cockpit fairing, reinforcing its enduro-ready stance. All units in the Philippines come with the Enduro Package Pro, including 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels with knobby tires, handguards, reinforced belly pan, handlebar riser, and 875mm seat height.
Modern rider aids include Rain, Road, Enduro, and Enduro Pro riding modes, Dynamic Traction Control, engine drag torque control, ABS Pro, and Shift Assistant Pro. It also comes complete with LED lighting with “X” headlight design and Keyless Ride technology. The new BMW R 12 G/S is backed by a five-year or 500,000-kilometer BMW Motorrad warranty, ensuring that every rider is protected on their adventure.
