
Young boxer Leo Mhar Lobrido showed courage after defeating Binal Dewasiri Narayana of Sri Lanka in the quarterfinals of the boys’ 46kg class at the Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain. With this, Lobrido is sure to have a medal after advancing to the semifinals.
Apart from her, bronze medals were also won by Princess Jay Ann Diaz and Jay-r Colonia in weightlifting. Princess, niece of Hidilyn Diaz, lifted 78kg in the girls’ 44kg class, while Colonia recorded 137kg in the boys’ 56kg category. The gold medals in both events went to athletes from India and China.
The Alas Pilipinas girls’ volleyball team finally advanced to the semifinals after defeating Chinese Taipei, 25-16, 20-25, 25-16, 25-18. The team was led by Sam Cantada, Rhose Almendralejo, and Rihanna Cris Navarro. According to Navarro, they will give everything to reach the gold medal against Iran.
In other matches, several Filipino athletes in table tennis and taekwondo showed good performances despite not reaching the medal round. Team Pilipinas continues to compete in various sports events in Bahrain, with hopes of adding more medals for the country.
