A court in Tarlac has decided to permanently cancel the birth certificate of former Bamban Mayor Alice Guo, after she filed a motion for reconsideration which was later denied due to lack of merit.
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the Regional Trial Court Branch 111 of Tarlac City upheld its earlier decision in favor of the PSA and the Office of the Solicitor General, which filed a petition in 2024 to invalidate Guo's document.
PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis Mapa said this is a big win to maintain the integrity of the civil registry system. She also warned against anyone who would engage in fraud or forgery of documents, as there are corresponding penalties under the law.
PSA Legal Service Director Eliezer P. Ambatali added that the decision proves that the government's process in implementing the law was correct and it strengthens PSA's operations against potential fraudsters.
The Alice Guo case became one of the biggest political issues of 2024, after the NBI discovered that her fingerprints matched those of a Chinese national, Guo Hua Ping, raising questions about her true identity and origins.
