Google has won a victory after a US judge said it did not have to sell its Chrome browser in an antitrust case. But it imposed strict rules to create more competition in online search.
In August 2024, Google was found to have violated the law by exclusive deals worth billions of pesos each year. The company said that people now have more ways to find information because of AI.
The ruling ordered Google to share search data and user info with qualified competitors to help them improve their services. The order also included a guard against exclusive deals to prevent Google from dominating the AI market.
Although the court did not allow the sale of Chrome, shares of Google parent company rose by almost 7.5% (equivalent to ₱4.3 trillion in market value) after the decision.
This is part of the US government's broader fight against Big Tech companies, where there are other cases against giant technology companies.
