The 1989 RUF CTR1 Lightweight “Redbird” is a rare work of art that will be sold at Monterey Car Week this August. With an estimated price of ₱252 million to ₱280 million, it is the only CTR painted in the special color Bordeaux Red and was also the personal vehicle of Alois Ruf, the founder of RUF.
In the late 1980s, the CTR1 became a global sensation after beating the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 959, with a top speed of 211 mph. Lightweight versions such as the “Redbird” were lighter with an aluminum body, Clubsport seats, and a few extras, but this model added power windows, custom telemetry, and heated glass. It also had unique styling features such as a Pfaffenhausen hood badge, chrome trim, and silver-finished wheels.
The “Redbird” has only about 19,000 kilometers and retains its matching-numbers twin-turbo 3.4L flat-six engine. Over the years, RUF has upgraded it with a G50 transaxle and a more powerful braking system. Complete with documentation and a list of previous notable owners in Europe, this is a valuable piece for collectors of classic performance cars.
Now part of a prominent American collection, the “Redbird” is considered one of the most special and valuable RUFs ever made. The auction begins on August 16 and is sure to be a highlight for lovers of analog speed and unique design.
