Speaker Martin Romualdez thanked the launch of the unified ID system for Persons with Disabilities (PWD). According to him, this will help stop the use of fake PWD IDs which has been a problem in the country for a long time.
He said this is a big step towards dignity, fair service, and speedy benefits for genuine PWDs. He added that with the help of DSWD and NCDA, it will be difficult for fraudsters to abuse the system.
The pilot rollout has begun in San Miguel, Bulacan and is expected to benefit 200,000 PWDs in the first phase. If implemented continuously, up to 2,000,000 PWDs nationwide will receive the benefits.
The areas where the program will be implemented next include Pasay, Muntinlupa, Santa Rosa (Laguna) and other 35 LGUs across the Philippines including Mindanao, Pangasinan, Rizal, Cavite, Aklan, Bohol, and South Cotabato.
The new PWD ID includes security features such as digital ID on the mobile app, QR code for quick verification, and RFID-enabled physical card to make it more secure and difficult to defraud.
