Ford has officially introduced the new Bronco New Energy in China, with two versions: electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV). The EV model has a 105-kWh battery with an estimated 403-mile range using the WLTP cycle. Meanwhile, the PHEV has a 44-kWh battery and gasoline engine with 136-mile electric range, and 800-mile total range when fully charged and fueled.
Both models are expected to feature all-wheel drive and other off-road features, but full specs have not been released yet. These new vehicles are made exclusively for China and slated to go on sale in the country this year.
While there is no electric or hybrid Bronco on the U.S. market yet, it could serve as a preview of upcoming models. It could be the beginning of Ford's shift to an electrified future of the iconic Bronco lineup.
This move is clearly part of Ford's following the global trend of electric vehicles, especially in the Chinese market which is rapidly adopting this technology.
