A man in New York died after he was sucked into an MRI machine while it was running. Police identified him as Keith McAllister, 61. According to Nassau County Police, McAllister was wearing a 20-lb chain around his neck when he entered the MRI room on July 16 at the Nassau Open MRI.
When McAllister went to help his wife after her MRI scan, she was suddenly sucked into the machine because of the metal she was wearing. According to his wife, Adrienne Jones-McAllister, "The machine pulled her, and she just went soft in my arms."
Adrienne also said that her husband had worn the chain several times at the same facility. She added that Keith had even spoken to the technician about it during a previous visit. Despite this, police said that he was not allowed to enter the room while the MRI was in progress.
McAllister suffered severe injuries, and according to his wife, he suffered several heart attacks after the incident. Adrienne asked them to turn off the machine and call 911, but it was too late. "He was still waving before he completely went limp," she said.
Up until now, the police investigation is still ongoing. Nassau Open MRI has not yet made an official statement regarding the incident. Experts remind us that metal is prohibited in the MRI room because it may cause danger or injury.
