A 50% discount on Metro Manila trains is a great benefit for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWD), according to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. He launched the program at the MRT-3 Santolan-Annapolis Station.
He said, “About 13 million senior citizens and 7 million PWDs will benefit from this.” The 50% discount is available on MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2, and is valid until 2028.
Previously, students were also given a 50% discount, and there are specially designated lanes for them. Marcos also announced that the Dalian trains that were purchased in 2014 but were not used due to compatibility issues with the MRT-3 are now operational.
“We have reviewed this and have assured that whatever needs to be done to make the Dalian train operational, we will do it,” Marcos said. The Dalian trains from China, which are now operational, have a capacity of 1,200 passengers per train. It is being touted that the waiting time for boarding will be reduced from 4 minutes to 2.5 minutes.
