A man was killed while waiting in line for assistance at the Capitol gym in Malolos City, Bulacan on July 12. According to the report of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), the victim was identified as Wilfredo Ople Catajan Jr. from Brgy. Sto. Niño, Hagonoy.
While conducting an Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) at around 10:40 a.m., Catajan complained of chest pain while sitting. As a result, responders immediately rushed him to the Bulacan Medical Center.
He was resuscitated at the hospital using CPR, suction, intubation, ECG, and other tests, but at 11:05 a.m. doctors declared him dead. According to officials, he had pre-existing health problems and the cause of death was acute coronary syndrome.
Ayuda day is crowded with people from different parts of Bulacan. The aid is more than ₱5,000 per person, so crowded and long waits in the line are inevitable.
Governor Daniel Fernando expressed his sympathy to the victim's family and reminded citizens to always be careful especially in crowded places such as aid distribution.
