Senator-elect Tito Sotto said he is open to becoming Senate President again as long as he has support from his fellow senators. He is among those rumored to be the likely Senate leader as the 20th Congress enters.
According to Sotto in an interview with One News’ The Long Take, “If my colleagues want me to lead, I will accept it.” Also in the running for the position are Sen. Chiz Escudero and Sen. Imee Marcos, sister of President Bongbong Marcos.
Sotto has 24 years of experience as a senator, from 1992 to 2004 and from 2010 to 2022. He was Senate President from 2018 to 2022 and has also led the majority and minority bloc.
He added that even if he is not elected to the Senate leadership, he is ready to use his experience to guide new senators in proper parliamentary procedures.
He said, “Even if I don’t become the leader, my track record and expertise can still be used in running the Senate. I can help address the shortcomings in the process when I return on July 28.”
