A 35-year-old cashier was arrested in Malabon on Wednesday after being involved in a robbery at a supermarket in Caloocan City. According to police, the incident occurred on September 2020, where he did not allow some products of his accomplices who were posing as customers to pass through the cash register.
The investigation revealed that after each transaction, they divided up the unpaid products. It is estimated that thousands of dollars were lost from the supermarket due to this modus operandi. The employer discovered this when he noticed strange numbers in the inventory.
The cashier was charged with five counts of Qualified Theft. According to PLt. Alexander Manalo of the Malabon Police, the suspect admitted that he was tempted out of necessity. After the complaint, he left the country and worked in Saudi Arabia as a maid.
When the warrant of arrest was dropped in 2022, he was no longer in the country. He was only able to return to the Philippines in 2023. He was arrested at his home in Barangay Tonsuya and merino went with the police.
He is currently detained at the Malabon Police Station while facing the charges filed against him. He refused to give a statement regarding the accusations.
