The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong is warning compatriots, especially Filipina domestic helpers, against offers to become surrogate mothers in foreign countries like Georgia. Recruiters often target OFWs who have just lost their jobs and are desperate to make a living.
The group's modus operandi is to encourage OFWs to return to Hong Kong first, then fly them to the UAE or Qatar. From there, they are allegedly taken to Georgia where they will be used as surrogates for childless foreign couples.
But instead of good opportunities, many compatriots end up in danger. There are reports that upon arriving in Georgia, some experience abuse such as rape and forced abortion.
Therefore, the consulate urges you not to simply trust job offers on social media or from unknown people. Instead, contact official agencies for safe opportunities.
This is an important reminder for OFWs: not all offers are genuine and have good intentions. Caution and correct information are the key to avoiding disaster.
