MoveIt riders can breathe a sigh of relief. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has assured that the company's plan to reduce the number of units will not be implemented for now.
According to LTFRB spokesperson Ariel Inton, the status quo in motorcycle taxi operations remains after MoveIt filed a Motion for Reconsideration against the Department of Transportation (DOTr) order.
Inton explained that the regulation for motorcycle taxis is not only done by the LTFRB. It also involves the DOTr and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) under the Technical Working Group (TWG).
He added that Secretary Vince Dizon ordered that the current setup remain in place while the MoveIt motion is being studied. So riders can still work for now.
The LTFRB issued a statement after a rally at its office in Quezon City, where riders expressed their opposition to the plan to remove 14,000 MoveIt units and the cessation of operations in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro.
