A 51-year-old man was arrested Saturday for the murder of an alleged burglar in 2000. According to police, the burglar stabbed him with a hatchet and the man defended himself. In the midst of the struggle, he grabbed the axe and killed the burglar.
The man said he knew the victim and was only defending his family. “That was my mother-in-law’s lover,” he said. He also said his wife was hurt when he tried to stop the fight, so he had to defend them both.
The man was taken back into police custody pending a decision on the case. He was previously released in 2021 but was rearrested for failing to attend a hearing. His release documents were also reportedly lost after their house burned down in 2024.
