National Police Commission (Napolcom) chief Rafael Vicente Calinisan has accused fugitive businessman Atong Ang of attempting to interfere in the investigation into the disappearance of several police officers.
According to Calinisan in an interview at the Philippine National Police Press Office in Camp Crame, Ang, who was dubbed the "cockroach boss," allegedly attempted to intervene through someone close to him in July 2025.
Napolcom revealed that two groups attempted to interfere in the investigation of 12 active members of the Philippine National Police (PNP). One is allegedly led by a “sabong boss,” while the other is connected to a local government official. All attempts were strongly denied.
Calinisan said, “I didn't name him before because we were in the middle of an investigation. But now, we have released our resolution.” He added that the public has the right to know what really happened, and Atong Ang did try to fix the situation.
Previously, Napolcom announced the dismissal of 11 police officers and also recommended the removal of a police general. Atong Ang, who is among the most wanted persons, has arrest warrants for his alleged involvement in the disappearance of the sabungeros. The DILG offered a P10-million reward for information on his whereabouts.
