The President Marcos ordered a salary increase for military and uniformed personnel (MUP) to be implemented in three phases starting Jan. 1, 2026, Jan. 1, 2027, and Jan. 1, 2028. It covers MUP from DND, DILG, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Corrections, and NAMRIA.
Along with the announcement, talk is rife about the alleged destabilization related to the flood control scandal. However, the government's plan for a salary hike and P350 daily subsistence allowance effective Jan. 1, 2026 is still in effect.
According to Marcos, the role of the military and police is important in public safety and in rapid response to disasters. AFP, on the other hand, expressed support and said that the administration recognizes the sacrifices of soldiers and other uniformed personnel.
The impact of the wage increase includes an automatic increase in the pension of retired MUPs. It can be recalled that Benjamin Diokno warned that the deteriorating MUP pension system could lead to fiscal collapse if left unchecked.
