Meta, the owner of Facebook, has cut about 600 jobs in its Artificial Intelligence (AI) division to make operations more efficient after rapid employee growth in recent years.
According to the report, the cuts will not affect CEO Mark Zuckerberg's TBD Lab, which is known for hiring top AI researchers from companies like OpenAI and Apple in exchange for high salaries that reach millions of pesos.
The affected employees are from teams focused on AI products and infrastructure. The move is aimed at increasing the company's efficiency while continuing to pursue major artificial intelligence projects.
According to a memo from Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang, reducing the positions will speed up decision-making because “fewer conversations will be required.”
Despite the downsizing, Meta continues to strengthen its AI technology as part of a broader plan to maintain its position in the tech industry.
