The new National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) official, Atty. Angelito Magno, has vowed to intensify the fight against human trafficking, cybercrime, and ghost projects. He will also head the Department of Justice (DOJ) task force investigating fake flood control projects.
According to Magno, the NBI will focus on its main areas such as cybercrime, human trafficking, and anti-drug campaign. He also said that operations will continue in Manila and the provinces.
One of Magno's priorities is the investigation into the ghost projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). He said there are some projects in remote areas but they can be traced using DPWH coordinates. Each NBI region has been tasked with providing weekly reports to avoid duplication of investigation.
He added, human trafficking will continue to be a major part of the NBI's work, especially in the protection of youth. They will collaborate with various agencies to crack down on online predators and illegal recruiters.
Magno praised President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for trusting him. He promised to advance the modernization of the NBI, including training and programs for agents. He said, “If you do a good job, you deserve a promotion. If not, there is a process to hold you accountable.”
