Tech companies are constantly competing to be at the forefront of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and now they are focused on changing how we search the internet. In the latest move, ChatGPT has launched the Atlas browser, an AI-powered web browser that can search and perform tasks online.
In a demo, Atlas was shown how it can create a shopping list for a dinner party based on the number of guests and the type of dish. Atlas joins other AI browsers such as Copilot-enabled Edge, Comet, and Neon that aim to make browsing easier and smarter.
New AI browsers don't just provide answers, they can act as "agents" — they can arrange schedules, make reservations, or order food on their own. In other words, they make it easier for people to navigate the internet.
Even so, Google Chrome remains firmly in its place, with over 70% of the market share. But according to experts, there could be a new Google if OpenAI succeeds in integrating ChatGPT data and the browser system.
If successful, OpenAI will gain more information about users, which can be used for more effective online ads and more personalized web experiences. The battle now is over who can truly seize the future of AI browsing — and it looks like it's starting with ChatGPT Atlas.
