Four-year-old Li Jingwei was kidnapped from his village in China. He grew up knowing nothing about his real family, except for a few memories of the bamboo grove, small pond, and school near their home.
After 33 years, Li drew a map from his memory and posted it on Douyin, China's version of TikTok. The video went viral, and many netizens and authorities came to his aid. With the help of technology, they identified the village in Yunnan province, more than ₱90,000 away from where Li currently lives.
The investigation proved that Li was a victim of child trafficking in 1989. He later met a woman who had lost her child. When Li asked if she had a scar on her chin, it was immediately confirmed. A DNA test proved that they were indeed mother and son.
They had an emotional reunion after three decades. During their first video call, they both cried. Li said, “Thirty-three years of waiting and finally, I found my real mother.”
Li thanked the volunteers and netizens who helped in his search. He returned to his village to visit his father's grave, and also thanked the family that raised him for their kindness and love.
