The Land Transportation Office (LTO) conducted an audit of its license plate inventory to see the true situation of production and distribution nationwide. According to LTO chief Markus Lacanilao, there is no backlog in plate production and the materials are complete.
Lacanilao clarified that the problem is in the delivery process. Many plates are left at regional offices and dealers so he will personally monitor the distribution. All pending plates are already scheduled for delivery.
He added that the courier system needs to be improved to ensure that license plates are delivered promptly. The LTO aims to make door-to-door delivery the standard so that motorists will not have difficulty claiming their license plates.
Motorists are also complaining because some individuals are charging a fee, such as ₱500, in exchange for claiming a license plate. The LTO issued a show-cause order against this because it is unauthorized and there is a risk of losing the license plate.
The LTO promised that they will continue to monitor and organize the delivery of the license plates to ensure that they reach motorists promptly, especially in the provinces.
