Philippines to open eVisa for Chinese tourists

The Philippines will open an electronic visa (eVisa) for Chinese travelers starting in November. The move aims to make it easier to visit the country and attract more tourists from one of the Philippines' largest sources of visitors.

According to Ambassador Jaime FlorCruz, this covers those from Mainland China and Special Administrative Regions who will visit for up to 14 days for business or tourism. Applications will be made online and accepted at the NAIA in Manila and Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

This will be implemented by the Embassy in Beijing along with consulates in Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai and Xiamen. Detailed procedures and website links will be released in the coming days.

For those staying for more than 14 days, or other foreign residents in China, you can still apply for a traditional visa at the new Visa Application Centers in Beijing, Chongqing, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Shanghai.

FlorCruz considered the timing of the eVisa important because it coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and China, and is a great help for more active people-to-people exchange.
