The students of Bulacan State University (BulSU) did not back down and continued their campus walkout against alleged corruption in flood control projects on September 19, even though face-to-face classes were canceled and moved to online mode.
Banners that read “Campus Walkout Persists” were placed in various parts of the university. Some youth also painted protest art to show their solidarity.
According to BulSU Student Regent and SG President Roshan Reyes, the walkout is a symbol of service to the people. He said, “We are not deaf, we are not blind, and we are not cowards. The walkout is a call for justice and accountability for a just future.”
The BulSUONE group also criticized the school administration for their silence. They insisted that the administration should have spoken out against corruption and not stopped the protest action.
“Ghost projects” were recently discovered in Bulacan, including the alleged ₱55,000,000 ghost river wall project in Baliwag. This has led to the youth and several sectors intensifying their calls for accountability and swift action from officials.
