The two people—a man and a woman—were arrested in Taytay, Rizal after they were caught offering a bribe to the family of a missing sabungero. According to police, the two offered the family a large sum of money, around ₱500,000, in exchange for signing an affidavit of recantation and dropping the case.
According to PNP Acting Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, the two were caught in an entrapment operation conducted by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Monday. He has also ordered the CIDG to conduct a thorough investigation to determine who is behind the bribe.
Nartatez said he believes someone ordered the two arrested and assured that they will face charges of grave coercion and obstruction of justice. He added that he will not allow justice to be abused and will immediately prosecute those behind the incident.
It can be recalled that since 2021, around 30 drug dealers have suddenly disappeared after being linked to e-drug operations in Luzon. To this day, the victims' families continue to call for justice, while President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the police to do everything possible to resolve the case.
