Senator Robin Padilla has filed an “Anti-Pabebe” bill that seeks to add practical skills to the country's education curriculum.
The proposal includes the teaching of basic agriculture, gardening, sewing, basic cooking, household skills, carpentry and woodwork. All of these include hands-on activities and practical demonstrations for students at every grade level to learn.
According to Padilla, changing culture and technology are making it difficult to pass on these skills from adults to youth. That's why he wants to make them part of the curriculum so that youth are better prepared for real life.
He added that this proposal is in line with global best practices where teaching life skills, values formation, and environmental awareness helps for mental well-being, preventing bad behavior, and developing responsible citizens.
The Anti-Pabebe bill was filed on August 27 and turned over to the Committee on Basic Education and Committee on Finance on September 16.
