Four construction workers were buried by collapsed earth and walls in Barangay Iruhin West, Tagaytay City, Cavite on Thursday morning. In the incident, one died, one was injured, and two are still being sought by authorities.
According to Tagaytay Mayor Brent Tolentino, this happened at the boundary of Tagaytay and Silang. The collapse came from Silang, while in Tagaytay, the workers' barracks were covered. The Tagaytay LGU and Disaster Risk Office responded first because the area could not be reached without passing through Tagaytay.
Based on a report by the Tagaytay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the incident occurred at around 10 a.m. One worker was immediately rescued and taken to the hospital, while the deceased was found using the Philippine Coast Guard's K9 unit. Two other workers are still being sought.
One of the survivors, Edgar Soria, was able to leave the barracks with his children to cook when the ground suddenly collapsed. The families of the missing have not yet issued a statement.
The injured victim is in stable condition at the hospital. The search operation was suspended at midnight due to bad weather and will resume at 7 a.m., Friday.
