The Marikina City Council has declared a state of calamity this Wednesday, July 23, according to Mayor Maan Teodoro. This follows severe flooding in Metro Manila and rising water levels in the Marikina River which reached third alarm yesterday.

In Teodoro's Facebook post, he said that Resolution No. 109, series of 2025, was passed to expedite the provision of assistance and measures for the safety of every family in Marikina.

According to Councilor Ronnie Acuña, the resolution was passed unanimous after being recommended by the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC). 12 barangays were affected due to heavy rains brought by the southwest wind.

More than 4,700 families have been evacuated and are now staying in evacuation centers. The water level in the Marikina River reached 18.7 meters on Tuesday morning before dropping to the normal 14.3 meters yesterday afternoon.

Local government clearing and declogging operations are continuing to maintain water flow and prevent further flooding in low-lying areas. Many other areas have also declared a state of calamity to access quick response fund and expedite rehabilitation.
