The heavy rain and winds from Typhoon Crising (Wipha) and Habagat have affected more than 800,000 people across the Philippines, according to a report by the NDRRMC on Monday, July 21.
While still within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), Crising continued to bring heavy rains to Luzon, prompting the placing of Signal No. 2 in some areas. The habagat also brought heavy rains to many parts of the country.
Up to 90,835 people were displaced from their homes in 16 regions. More than 300 areas experienced flooding and 1,234 houses were damaged, with an estimated P1.02 million in damage.
Even though Wipha is no longer in the country, rains are still continuing due to the southwest monsoon. Authorities are now monitoring a low pressure area outside the PAR, which has a low chance of developing into a typhoon.
Five people have been confirmed dead, while 7 are missing and 5 are injured. One of the fatalities was hit by a falling tree while riding a motorcycle, and another died after a house collapsed due to strong winds and rain.
