A 1.5-year-old child in Quezon died after having difficulty breathing while sleeping on his back. According to the story of the mother, identified as Jennifer, at around 8 pm on June 21, she fed her child rice and soup. Half an hour later, she drank milk and went to sleep at around 9 pm.
At 12:40 a.m., Jennifer woke up to take a bath and saw her son lying face down. When she turned him over, she noticed that he was withered and not moving. She said, “His lips are violet.” They immediately took him to the hospital, but he could not be saved. The death certificate stated that the cause of death was aspiration pneumonia because food and fluid had entered the lungs.
Pediatrician Dr. Benjamin Co explained, sleeping on your stomach is dangerous, especially for children. It can be difficult to breathe or breathe your own air, which can cause low oxygen levels. The mother reminded, “Don't let your child sleep on their stomach, it might happen to them too.”
