The two motorcycle riders were injured after a collision on Commonwealth Avenue, opposite Commonwealth Elementary School early Wednesday morning. CCTV footage showed a bus stopped in the motorcycle lane. A little later, an oncoming motorcycle collided with a delivery rider who was parked behind the bus.
According to the 40-year-old bus driver who was on his way to Fairview, "We were stopped, dropping off a passenger. Suddenly, someone hit me from behind. We were about to leave." Other than some damage to the bumper, there was no major damage to the bus.
The 39-year-old delivery rider was injured in the eye, forehead, and knee. He said, "I was just in the motor lane, on my way home to Montalban, when suddenly I was hit from behind." He added, "I hope justice will be served... but I have no case, I have a family to support."
The rider who first collided was also injured, but he refused to give a statement. According to witnesses, he was drunk. The barangay ambulance immediately took both of them to the hospital.
According to Gloria Taaca, medic of Barangay Commonwealth, "Riders should be careful especially if they have been drinking." She also advised to slow down and be extra careful, especially since Commonwealth Avenue is accident-prone. The investigation by QCPD Traffic Sector 5 is still ongoing.
