A 9-year-old boy from Barangay Pantoc, San Isidro, Abra died after being electrocuted while playing in the rain with his friends on Monday afternoon.
According to the initial police report, a high-tension wire of the Abra Electric Cooperative (ABRECO) suddenly fell and hit the child's foot. He was rushed to the Villaviciosa Medicare and Community Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
According to the child's mother, Reychel, residents have been complaining about the broken wire for a long time, but no action has been taken. "Many people have complained before, but they only fixed it when something happened," she said.
In a statement by ABRECO, they said they had not received any reports about the said line before the incident. They insisted that it was an “unforeseen event” that only happened on June 2, 2025.
The investigation by authorities is still ongoing while residents are calling for more careful inspection of power lines to prevent similar incidents in the future.
