
The Department of Health (DOH) in the Negros Island Region confirmed that two men died of glanders in Siquijor. This is a disease transmitted from animals such as horses, buffaloes, and goats. They both have illnesses such as high blood and diabetes and are confined to a hospital in Negros Oriental.
According to Dr. Nikka Hao of DOH-NIR, there are medicines and ways to prevent glanders. It is said to be rarely transmitted from person to person. The DOH also advises avoiding direct contact with animals and eating meat from sick animals. Glanders have symptoms such as fever, cough, and body aches.

In Bohol, the Provincial Health Office issued an advisory due to the presence of mpox (monkeypox) in other provinces. According to Dr. Fruserma Mary Uy, even though there is no case in Bohol yet, everyone is encouraged to increase information and education on prevention of mpox.
Dr. Uy added that early consultation and avoiding crowded places are important. Mpox is preventable and treatable if treated promptly.
