A tragedy rocked Barangay San Vicente, Sta. Maria, Bulacan after a 28-year-old mother and her three boys aged 1, 3, and 6 were killed in a house fire. The fire occurred on the morning of May 15, while the father of the family was away at work in Batangas.
Neighbors said they saw the mother come out before the fire spread. Residents responded by pouring water on the house and breaking the door lock to gain entry. One of the responders said one of the children was still alive when he saw her, but she later died at the hospital along with the mother and two other children.
In the initial investigation by the Bureau of Fire Protection, matches and two bottles of paint thinner were found inside the house. According to authorities, it appears that the initial cause of the fire was a person and not the house itself.
Captain Potenciano Lorenzo added that the mother went to the barangay hall a few hours before the incident to have her husband's dispute blotted out. The couple's planned confrontation was reportedly canceled due to the fire that occurred the next day.
The investigation is still ongoing to determine the true cause of the incident. For now, the father of the family remains silent despite what his children have suffered.
