The driver of the SUV that crashed into a bollard at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1—killing two people, including a four-year-old child—has been released after posting bail of P100,000. This was ordered by the Pasay City Regional Trial Court.
MIAA General Manager Eric Ines confirmed this, and said they must follow the court order. The case includes reckless imprudence that resulted in double homicide, multiple serious injuries, and property damage.
The accident occurred on May 4, when a black SUV crashed into the railing of NAIA Terminal 1 and hit the walkway near the entrance, causing two deaths and four injuries. The Land Transportation Office ordered the suspension of the driver's license for 90 days as a preventive measure.
After the incident, the Department of Transportation implemented stricter guidelines for public transport drivers, including regular drug testing and a reduction in maximum driving hours to prevent such tragedies.
