The Philippine Pet Birth Control Center (PPBCC) announced the closure of its operations after allegations of neglect surfaced again, in which a pet dog allegedly died. This has left many pet owners saddened and asking the organization to reconsider its decision.
Many rely on PPBCC's cheap neuter and spay service, especially those who cannot afford treatment at expensive private vet clinics. Since 2017, they have helped nearly 200,000 cats and dogs. They have lowered the price from ₱800–₱2,000 to just ₱100–₱300.
PPBCC explained that each incident of death has a medical explanation and that some pets were neutered despite warnings from the vet. According to them, there were signed waiver forms from the owners who chose to proceed with the procedure.
Due to the constant criticism, the founder received threats, forcing them to close to prioritize their family. However, they will still complete existing appointments and their Facebook page is still open for updates.
Many pet owners have requested that the closure not be continued because of the great contribution PPBCC has made to animal welfare. Many said that their pet cats and dogs are still healthy because of the foundation's neuter service.
