The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued a warning about a fake news circulating on social media. According to the viral post, “NO NATIONAL ID, NO VOTE” in the May 12 elections, and it is mandatory to carry a National ID to vote.
Comelec spokesperson Atty. John Rex Laudiangco clarified that this is not true. He said there was no such advisory from the Comelec, and it was not posted on their official or verified social media accounts. “This is fake news. This is just a smear campaign against the Comelec and our election process,” he said.
He also explained that a National ID is not required to vote. However, in the event that the voter's identity cannot be verified in the EDCVL, a valid ID will be requested.
Laudiangco added, be careful with posts online and make sure to only get information about the elections from official sources.
