The situation of Palestinian children in Gaza continues to deteriorate. Many of them, like Khaled, a nine-month-old boy, are suffering from malnutrition. Khaled weighs just 5 kilos, even though he has had this condition for two months, according to a report by the Associated Press (AP).
Despite the treatment Khaled received at Gaza's pediatric hospital, food and medicine supplies are still lacking. His mother, Wedad Abdelaal, said the aid they receive is still not enough. Gaza's borders have been closed for three months, and most residents are relying on aid, but there is not enough food in warehouses.
As the number of children falling ill increases, nutritional centers and community kitchens are also closed due to bombs and a lack of supplies. According to UNICEF, more than 9,000 children have been treated for malnutrition this year, and the number continues to rise. Many parents are also sharing limited medications for their children.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that there is a grave risk of mass starvation in Gaza, and if no action is taken, millions of children will suffer or will die. According to Michael Ryan of the WHO, "The children of Gaza are paying the price."
