
A suspected NPA member was killed while a soldier was wounded in an encounter in Barangay Humay-humay, Guihulngan, Negros Oriental on the morning of May 1, 2025.
According to Police Lt. Jerome de Lara, deputy chief of the Guihulngan City Police, the body of the rebel was found during a clearing operation after the exchange of gunfire. Also recovered from the scene were an M16 rifle, ammunition, personal belongings, and several documents.
The wounded soldier from the Philippine Army was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. He has not been named while his condition is being assessed.
Due to the gunfire, some residents evacuated to safer areas. The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) is now assisting them to identify the number of affected families.
Authorities continue to monitor the area to ensure the safety of civilians as operations against the rebels continue.
