India's National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has launched an investigation after up to 100 children were poisoned or suffered fever after eating school lunch with a dead snake in the food. According to the report, the food was served to the children even after the snake was removed from it.
The incident took place at a public school in Mokama, a town in Bihar, one of India's poorest states. It sparked outrage from the children's families, who protested and blocked the road.
The NHRC has ordered local officials and police to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and submit a report on the condition of the children. This incident has raised concerns about the human rights of students in public schools.
In 2013, there was also an incident in Bihar where 23 children died due to food contaminated with pesticides. Therefore, the government implemented measures to improve food safety in schools.
