The management of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has issued a new policy: security personnel are no longer allowed to touch passengers' passports while entering the terminal or passing through security check.
According to New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), passengers only need to show their valid ID or travel document by raising or holding it themselves — no need to hand it over to security.
The new rule follows a viral post in which an old man who was supposed to be traveling to Bali, Indonesia was denied boarding because his passport was allegedly torn. According to NNIC, this happened at the airline check-in counter and NAIA security had nothing to do with the incident.
The NNIC also said that they are coordinating with the airlines, Department of Transportation (DOTr), and the Bureau of Immigration (BI) to further tighten procedures and prevent such problems in the future.
