The tragic fire incident in Purok 5, Barangay Dalahican, Lucena City last Saturday resulted in the death of two children, ages one and two.
According to the investigation, their mother allegedly left the children at home to buy coconut oil for the lamp they made, because there was no electricity in the area.
Before firefighters arrived, neighbors worked together using a bucket relay to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading to other houses.
One of the children was found dead in the bedroom, while the other was rescued by residents but was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. No one else was injured in the incident.
City Fire Marshal Supt. Elias Baguio III once again reminded everyone to be careful when using fire or lamps, and not to leave children alone indoors to prevent such tragedies.
