Gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo from the Philippines performed brilliantly at the 53rd Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta and won the gold medal in vault.
Despite a minor wrist injury before the competition, Yulo showed strength and skill in her first attempt, earning 15.200 points, and averaging 14.866 points. She also earned a bronze medal in floor exercise the previous day.
Although Artur Davtyan of Armenia, who won silver, fought hard, it didn't stop Yulo from winning his second vault gold at the World Championships and third overall since his first medal in Stuttgart, Germany six years ago.
Philippine Sports Commission chairman Pato Gregorio praised Yulo as a national treasure, and assured that he will continue to entertain Filipinos on the international stage.
Overall, Yulo showed that even with injuries and intense competition, he can defeat the best athletes and bring honor to the Philippines.
