The Department of Education (DepEd) has ordered the release of overtime pay for teachers. According to Secretary Sonny Angara, DepEd Order 26 has been issued which contains guidelines on how to pay for additional hours of work.
The Magna Carta for Public School Teachers (RA 4670) states that teachers shall be paid an additional 25% of their regular salary if they teach beyond six hours or engage in activities such as co-curricular and out-of-school activities.
This covers all public school teachers, including those in the Alternative Learning System (ALS), whether they are permanent, provisional, or substitute. This means that all full-time teachers from elementary to senior high school and in Community Learning Centers will receive overtime pay.
Angara emphasized that this is to ensure that teachers are paid fairly and their sacrifices and contributions are recognized. At the same time, DepEd also aims to maintain transparency and accountability in the provision of benefits.
By providing overtime pay, DepEd is strengthening the rights and dignity of teachers while ensuring the proper implementation of government compensation policies.
