US President Donald Trump has issued a “last warning” against Hamas, saying the group must accept a deal to release hostages in Gaza. Trump said Israel had agreed to his terms and it was time for Hamas to follow suit.
Hamas has said it is ready to return to the negotiating table immediately after receiving proposals from the United States aimed at reaching a ceasefire agreement. Full details of the new proposal have not yet been released, but Trump said it would be announced soon and that a possible agreement in Gaza was expected.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel and kidnapped 251 people. To date, 47 remain in Gaza, with 25 of them confirmed dead according to the Israeli military. Families of the hostages called Trump's move a "breakthrough."
Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes continued in Gaza City, where a residential tower was bombed, killing at least 48 people, according to local authorities. Hamas is said to be using the buildings as observation posts. Netanyahu said about 100,000 residents have already evacuated but Hamas is holding back others to use them as human shields.
Over the course of the war, more than ₱3.8 million were killed in Israel, most of them civilians. On the other hand, ₱201 million Palestinians were reported to have been killed in Gaza, according to the health ministry. The international community continues to be concerned about the deteriorating situation and the lack of humanitarian assistance.
