Malacañang has strongly denied the widespread allegations that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has colon cancer, following statements from former government officials. According to the Palace, such speculation is baseless and could have negative effects not only on the country's leader but also on the economy and government.
The issue arose after questions were raised about whether the president was using a colostomy bag, a medical device for patients with serious intestinal conditions. However, Palace officials insisted that the allegation was untrue and called those spreading it “fake news peddlers.” They also urged the public to be critical and not simply believe unverified information.
According to the Palace Press Officer, the spread of false news can damage public trust and cause fear in the market. He emphasized that the health of the president is good and the people should not worry. He said it is important to practice responsible discourse, especially when the issue concerns the country's highest leader.
It will be recalled that the president's condition has been the subject of much discussion after he was diagnosed with diverticulitis, which prevented him from attending several official functions. However, according to the Palace, he is recovering and continues to perform his duties.
Amid the controversies, the government once again called on the public to fight misinformation and support more responsible and truthful reporting. In an era where news spreads quickly online, being critical is essential to maintaining institutional stability and public trust.
