The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has offered a P1 million reward for information leading to the immediate arrest of the main suspect and accomplices in the killing of Police Staff Sergeant Renato Casauay Jr., who was found dead inside a septic tank in Malolos City, Bulacan.
Based on CCTV footage, Casauay was last seen alive when he entered a compound in Barangay Mojon before a series of gunshots were heard. Minutes later, several individuals were seen leaving the area, including a person whom investigators have identified as the primary suspect in the crime.
According to the police, the crime may be related to previous anti-illegal drug operations in which the victim was involved. Investigations revealed that these operations allegedly caused tension, which later became the motive for the heinous murder.
Four people have been arrested, including a police officer who was accused of being an accessory after allegedly failing to arrest the main suspect despite having knowledge of the incident. Two of those arrested confessed to their roles in cleaning up the crime scene and hiding the victim's body.
Authorities are continuing their thorough investigation, including obtaining cyber warrants, reviewing additional CCTV footage, and filing murder charges against the suspects who remain at large. The DILG stressed that every police life is precious and that any violence committed against the police force will not be tolerated.
